Show review: Night Marchers, Night Horse, Dammit Janet, Fast Dragon - 10.30.2009

San Diego legends, Night Marchers may have started late at Alex's last night (1am. oh man, I'm way too old for this...), but the set was anything but tired. Inspired upbeat rock and roll with an angst-y edge matched by the hilarious in-between song banter of John Reis.

Show Review: Argyle Smile, Streetlight Affair, Set To Sea, Kyle and Natalie at Detroit Bar, Sept 1, 2009

Headed down to Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa last night to catch Argyle Smile, Streetlight Affair, Set To Sea, Kyle and Natalie.
Honestly, due to my fatigue, the only bands I paid attention to were Set to Sea and Argyle Smile, but appeared that Streetlight Affair rocked and pretty much had the crowd in the palm of their hands.

Show Review: The Year Zero, I Heart Lung at The Prospector, Aug. 25, 2009

So, yeah. It's Tuesday night, a "school night", so-to-speak. Four bands (I think...) at The Prospector, and first band goes on at 11pm. Really? Maybe I'm just old, but that seems really late for the first act to go on.

In any case, first up with an acoustic set by The Year Zero, or rather two of them, Lili De La Mora and Rodney Sellars, playing a fantastic set of dream pop a la My Bloody Valentine and Go-Betweens. I was blown away. Great songs and harmonies. Can't wait to see them as a whole band.
